  • [01] EU Agriculture Ministers meet in Dublin to discuss CAP

    EU Agriculture Ministers meet in Dublin on May 27 and 28, to discuss the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), during an Informal Agriculture and Fisheries Council.

    According to an official press release, Cypriot Minister of Agriculture, Natural Resources and the Environment Nicos Kougialis will attend the meeting.

    EU Ministers will discuss the four regulations of the new CAP concerning direct payments, the single common market organization, rural development and the number of paying agencies.

    [02] Government: Dinner of two leaders to be a social event

    Government Spokesman Christos Stylianides has said that it has been confirmed that that the dinner between President Nicos Anastasiades and Turkish Cypriot leader Dervis Eroglu, to be hosted by the UN in Nicosia on May 30, will be a social event.

    Stylianides noted that the UN gave assurances to the government during a meeting between UN Secretary General's Chef de Cabinet Susana Malcorra and Cyprus' Permanent Representative at the UN Nicos Emiliou.

    A UN Spokesperson issued, late on Friday, a statement with regard to the meeting, following two earlier statements by the UN issued on the same day. "We can confirm that the Permanent Representative of Cyprus met Chef de Cabinet Susana Malcorra yesterday", the statement said.

    [03] President calls for cooperation to restart the economy

    It is up to everyone, both the government and the people, to work so that Cyprus can stand on its feet again, President of the Republic Nicos Anastasiades has said.

    In an address at the 45th Cyprus Union of Bank Employees (ETYK) congress, delivered by Finance Minister Harris Georgiades, President Anastasiades stressed the importance of everyone`s cooperation in this effort, that sacrifices will be needed.

    "It is up to us, the government first of all, but every one else as well, to address the situation and stand on our feet again", he pointed out.

    [04] Development projects under scrutiny ahead of 2014 budget

    The Ministry of Communications and Works will prioritize development projects to be included in the 2014 budget, Minister of Communications and Works Tasos Mitsopoulos has said.

    Mitsopoulos said that the aim is to ensure funding of development projects already underway and to examine which other projects can be included in the 2014 budget.

    The Ministry's main aim, he pointed out "is to boost growth by proceeding with the implementation of important infrastructure projects which will create conditions for growth and new jobs".
