[01] British MEP calls on Lagarde to proceed with stimulus measures
not austerity
British MEP Mary Honeyball called on IMF Chief Christine Lagarde to
«come to her senses» and to proceed with stimulus measures not austerity.
Honeyball was speaking on Friday, after a meeting she had with leftwing
AKEL Secretary General Andros Kyprianou in Nicosia. "Obviously as an MEP
I have heard a lot both about the economy at the moment and the problems
that not only Cyprus but the whole of the euro zone is having and also
to be updated of what's going on in terms of trying to find a solution
to the Cyprus problem", she noted.
She added that "I am very pleased to be here to have this opportunity to
have these discussions and I wish all you all the very best". Referring
to recent statements by Lagarde on Cyprus she said "I do hope that
Mrs. Lagarde comes to her senses a bit because I think what she is trying
to impose is really going to do Cyprus a lot of harm and what we need
is some measures that will stimulate growth to get out of the economic
problems, not more austerity".
