[01] Downer to brief UN Security Council end of May
United Nations Special Adviser to the Secretary-General on Cyprus
Alexander Downer will brief the UN Security Council via teleconference
on May 30. Downer's briefing to UNSC will take place one day after the
dinner between President of the Republic Nicos Anastasiades and Turkish
Cypriot leader Dervis Eroglu that Downer will host in Nicosia.
According to diplomats in New York, US Deputy Assistant Secretary in
the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs Eric Rubin, responsible
for issues related to Greece, Turkey, Cyprus, and the Caucasus held
on Wednesday contacts with UN Secretariat officials. According to the
same sources, Rubin will be in Nicosia on 29th of May, as well as his
British counterpart of Foreign Office.
[02] Cyprus in the first semi final of Eurovision Song Contest
The First Semi-Final of the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest will be held
at the Malmö Arena in Sweden, where 16 countries, including Cyprus,
will compete tonight for 10 places in the Grand Final. The broadcast
will be hosted by Pedra Mede.
The second Semi-Final will take place on Thursday 16 May. Cyprus
participates in tonight's semi final in the 14th position with Despina
Olympiou with the son "Áí ìå èõìÜóå - If you remember me". A total of
33 countries will compete to go through to the Final that will be held
on Saturday with the participation of 26 countries.
The six countries which go straight to the Grand Final are France,
Germany, Italy, Spain, the UK and Sweden, last year's winner. The result
will be determined by way of a 50/50 split between national expert juries
and televoting. The combined scores will create the final outcome.
