  • [01] Eurogroup decision was political, says Attorney General

    The Eurogroup decision on Cyprus of March 25, belongs to the political realm and constitutes as such an ‘Act of Government', was the message sent by Attorney General Petros Clerides during his closing argument before the plenary of the Supreme Court, on Tuesday.

    The pre-trial process concerns a large number of appeals against certain decrees issued by the Central Bank concerning the two largest banks of Cyprus, namely Bank of Cyprus and Cyprus Popular Bank.

    [02] Allegations of money laundering in Cyprus are not confirmed

    Allegations of money laundering in Cyprus are not confirmed, the Minister of Finance has said. Moneyval and Deloitte carried out an investigation following allegations by EU states, especially Germany, that there is money laundering in Cyprus.

    The investigation has been concluded, and according to Minister of Finance, Harris Georgiades, "the results for Cyprus are much better than some outside Cyprus might like to present".

    [03] President: Eurogroup's decision was predetermined

    Á Eurogroup decision on Cyprus' financial predicament was predetermined, President of the Republic Nicos Anastasiades has said.

    In an interview with the Greek TV station NET, broadcast Monday evening, President Anastasiades said that Cyprus was a guinea pig in the way that problematic banking systems would be dealt with in the Eurozone.

    [04] Energy issues on the agenda of Cyprus and Israeli Ministers

    Minister of Defense Fotis Fotiou will pay Israel a one - day visit on Thursday, at the invitation of his Israeli counterpart Moshe Yaloon.

    During the visit, the two Ministers are expected to discuss energy issues as well as cooperation between the two countries in the field of energy security.

    Other issues on the agenda include developments in the Middle East, and further implementation of agreements already signed between the two countries.
