state [01] Government aims to make Cyprus Airways viableThe government`s aim is to make Cyprus Airways a viable company, which can survive the competition in the air transport sector, Minister of Communications and Works Tasos Mitsopoulos has said.He noted that measures to restructure the company were already in the pipeline, such as the reduction of the fleet and staff. Mitsopoulos said the government has decided, through changes, to support the company, adding that "what we all have to do - employees, management and the state - is to make the changes that will address the longstanding problems, which did not allow the company to become competitive." [02] Future of DEFA and KRETYK to be examined in measures to modernize stateAll possibilities regarding the future of Natural Gas Public Company (DEFA) and the State Hydrocarbons Company (KRETYK) will be examined in the framework of the overall effort to modernize the state, said Monday Energy, Commerce and Industry Minister Giorgos Lakotripis.Answering questions on the future of the two companies, Lakotripis, said "together with the President (Nicos Anastasiades) we discussed various issues, including this one. We have agreed that this issue will be discussed in the context of the overall effort to modernize the government, which the President announced earlier". [03] AKEL and EDEK will vote against MoU, DIKO to vote in favourThree parliamentary parties, left-wing AKEL, the Democratic Party (DIKO) and Social Democrats Movement EDEK decided on Monday with regard to their position on the voting that will take place on Tuesday during a meeting of the 56-member House plenary to decide the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and the loan agreement with Cyprus' international lenders.AKEL Central Committee decided that the party's nineteen MPs would vote against the loan agreement and the MoU. AKEL spokesman George Loukaides said that the only choice for Cyprus is a solution outside the loan agreement and the Memorandum, and that seeking such a solution will most probably mean a decision for Cyprus to exit the Economic and Monetary Union.
