  • [01] Austrian Airlines expands the range of flights from Larnaca to Vienna

    Austrian Airlines has announced an additional flight on its Larnaca-Vienna route during the summer season until the end of November, offering up to twelve flights a week on the route from Larnaca.

    According to an announcement issued by the company's press office, with this improved offer, Austrian Airlines, Austria's largest carrier, is continuing to build up its already significant presence in Cyprus and improves the connection of Larnaca to the Austrian network.

    The announcement says that Austrian Airlines serves a total of 130 destinations in 55 countries this summer, adding that in Vienna, passengers can transfer between flights in just 25 minutes.

    [02] Trips abroad in March declined by 6%

    Residents of Cyprus travelling abroad declined by 6% in March 2013, according to figures by Cyprus` Statistical Service. Trips abroad reached 75,892 compared to 80,700 in the corresponding month last year.

    The United Kingdom remains Cyprus` top destination with 23,785 trips increased by 16.8%, followed by Greece with 21.046 down by 16.8%. Russia is the third destination with 4.063, followed by Israel with 1,696 and Lebanon with 1,283.

    In March 2013 there was a decrease of 16,8% on the trips of residents to Greece (from 25.300 in March 2012 to 21.046 in March 2013) whereas there was an increase of 1,6% on the trips from the United Kingdom (from 23.400 in 2012 to 23.785 this year).

    [03] BoC's operations in Romania to be transferred to Marfin Romania

    Bank of Cyprus (BoC) announced on Friday that on 25 April 2013 the Bank has reached an agreement "to transfer from Bank of Cyprus Public Company Limited Sucursala Romania ("the Romanian Branch") to Marfin Bank (Romania) SA certain assets and liabilities including most customer deposits, certain loan agreements and related collateral and cash and other liquid assets".

    According to the Bank's announcement, "under this Agreement, gross assets of €82 million, deposits of €77 million, as well as all staff related to servicing the relevant contracts were transferred to Marfin Bank (Romania) SA.

    It is noted that "the Romanian Branch resumed normal banking operations as of today. It will service customers whose contracts have not been transferred to Marfin Bank (Romania) SA, operating out of its Bucharest Dorobanti Branch located in Bucharest, Calea Dorobantilor nr. 187B, sector 1».

    [04] Imports at €380.1 mn and exports at €116.6 in January

    Goods imported to Cyprus and destined for home use were of a value of €380.1mn in January 2013, whereas exports were of a value of €116.6, according to data released by the Cyprus Statistical Service.

    Imports in January 2012 stood at €388.7mn in January 2012 and exports at €92,5mn in January 2012.

    Consumer goods were valued at €111.3mn or 29.3% and €126.7mn or 32.6% in January 2013 and January 2012, accordingly.
