investment in Cyprus [01] Cyprus and Israel conclude successful S&R drillA joint Cyprus-Israel Search and Rescue drill was successfully concluded on Tuesday in the sea area south of Limassol, which included a scenario of a maritime accident on a commercial ship, involving the rescue of injured crew members and missing castaways.Due to the gravity of the purported accident, the Joint Rescue Coordination Center (JRCC) in Larnaca asked the contribution of the Rescue Coordination center in Haifa and of the Israeli navy. [02] British Cypriots and Treasury examine ways to increase inward investment in CyprusLeading representatives of the UK Cypriot community have met with the Financial Secretary to the Treasury Greg Clark, in the presence of British MPs, to discuss measures that the UK government could take to support British Cypriots in their attempts to increase inward investment in Cyprus.Matters explored during the discussion included the provision of technical assistance to Cyprus, possible collaboration relating to the proposed establishment of a Cyprus Investment Fund and potential co-operation in facilitating UK investment and UK-Cypriot joint ventures in key sectors of the island's economy including tourism, services, culture and education and energy. [03] Defence Minister Fotiou stresses importance of Defence CouncilDefence Minister Fotis Fotiou has said that the December 2013 European Council on Security and Defence will be pivotal in examining the EU strategic policies, threats on security as well as fiscal challenges and to open to the road for tangible results.Fotiou was speaking during the Foreign Affairs Council (Defence) that was held in Luxembourg as well as a meeting of the European Defence Agency Steering Board which was held on the sidelines of the Council. [04] Two beaches in Cyprus included in pilot projectTwo beaches in Cyprus have been included in a pilot project entitled "greener beaches". The pilot project was implemented at two of Cyprus' most popular beaches in the Famagusta district, namely "Fig Tree Bay" and the "Nissi Beach".According to a questionnaire, visitors to the two beaches said that the pilot project had made the beaches even more attractive.
