EU funds [01] Anastasiades addresses letters to EU Presidents for additional EU fundsPresident of the Republic of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades sent a letter on Friday to the President of the European Parliament, the President of the European Council, the President of the European Commission and the Irish Prime Minister, as President of the EU Presidency, in which he asks for additional EU funds and other supporting measures, to better address the impact of the financial and economic crisis in Cyprus.Government Spokesman Christos Stylianides told journalists that the Conclusions of the European Council of 8 February 2013, concerning the Multiannual Financial Framework 2014-2020, provide for the granting of additional assistance to those member states which have suffered serious consequences from the economic crisis in the eurozone and which have directly affected their prosperity level. In this context, he said, the Republic of Cyprus has made a request through the letters of the President of Cyprus, to secure additional funds for Cyprus from the EU Cohesion Policy and the EU Rural Development. The government, he added, will do its utmost to secure additional resources for financing the areas of development and social cohesion. [02] Inward foreign affiliates survey in Cyprus for 2011The Statistical Service of Cyprus said on Friday that as of April 15, it will be conducting the survey on Inward Foreign Affiliates in Cyprus for the year 2011.The aim of the survey is the collection of basic statistical data on the structure and developments of inward foreign affiliates. The Statistical Service requests all enterprises included in the category of foreign affiliates to assist the employees of the Statistical Service to complete the relevant questionnaire. [03] Cyprus marks International Day for Monuments and SitesCypriots and visitors will have the chance to visit, free of charge, fifteen museums and archeological sites all over the island on April 18 for the International Day for Monuments and Sites.As of 1983, 18th of April is celebrated by UNESCO as the International Day for Monuments and Sites. It is celebrated each year with events that aim to make the public aware of their cultural heritage. Citizens are encouraged through a number of events to learn about and appreciate all forms of their heritage. According to a press release issued Friday, each year a different topic is promoted and all the events are organized so as to incorporate the specific theme. The theme for 2013 is "The Heritage of Education". The aim of this year's theme is to promote an aspect of the island's cultural heritage. [04] Spokesman: Adjustments are necessary for the future of Cyprus AirwaysThe government of Cyprus believes that the necessary adjustments should take place in order to secure the future of Cyprus Airways.Government Spokesman Christos Stylianides said on Friday that the necessary adjustments constitute a prerequisite for the company`s future. "The position of the government is that the necessary adjustments should take place in Cyprus Airways, otherwise, unfortunately, we can not even proceed with negotiating with any strategic investor" he said. [05] Cyprus and Deloitte to sign cooperation agreementThe Cypriot authorities will sign a cooperation agreement with Deloitte to carry out an audit of the implementation of rules and regulations against money laundering as these are incorporated in the Cypriot financial system, in line with a Eurogroup decision.Reliable sources have told the CNA that talks are talking place at the Central Bank on the agreement.
