  • [01] Private initiative for natural gas transfer to Cyprus from own blocks

A project for the transfer of natural gas to Cyprus from its own reserves in two and a half years time was presented Friday to the President Nicos Anastasiades by a team of American-Jewish investors with a Cypriot participation.

Reliable sources said that this is a private initiative, proposing the transfer of natural gas to Cyprus from its own reserves discovered in its Exclusive Economic Zone, within two and a half years.

The same sources noted that the investors expressed interest for block 3 in Cyprus' EEZ, for which Cyprus has already granted a research license to Italy's ENI.

[02] UNDP-ACT installs solar panels in the buffer zone to reduce emissions

UNDP Action for Cooperation and Trust (ACT) announced the activation of its new energy producing solar panels that help reduce carbon dioxide emissions and minimize office costs.

A UNDP-ACT announcement says that in the wake of the tragic Mari incident, which highlighted the precarious energy security situation of the island, and as a response to a study by the Cyprus 2015 on the sustainable development of the island, "UNDP-ACT decided to do its part to support renewable energies, and successfully applied for a US$ 30,000 grant to install a 15 KW photovoltaic park at its premises".

Christopher Louise, UNDP-ACT Programme Manager said that "we can do our part to mitigate climate change by using more modern, energy-efficient technologies such as solar power for electricity and water heating".
