[01] Trade unions believe general strike is possible
A general strike in Cyprus, due to the continuing deadlock in the
construction industry, is possible, according to the General Secretaries
of the Cyprus Workers' Confederation (SEK) and the Pancyprian Labour
Federation (PEO), Nicos Moyseos and Pambis Kyritsis respectively.
In statements to CNA, Moyseos said Kyritsis said the two trade unions
were looking into the possibility of a general strike in a gesture of
solidarity with the workers in the construction industry, whose strike
has entered its eighth day.
SEK is holding a meeting on Friday to decide on the issue, while PEO
has already decided to suggest a general strike if no solution was found
for the builders, even after talks held by the Minister of Labour.
