    The total number of visitors to Cyprus from abroad for the purpose of sports tourism recorded an increase of 19% compared to 2010, generating approximately 20 million euros in revenues, according to a survey on sports tourism in Cyprus for the year 2011 presented Tuesday by the Cyprus Tourism Organisation during a press conference.

    Particularly, in 2011 the number of visitors stood at 12,879 compared to 10,784 in 2010 and 9,347 in 2009.

    The survey covered the sports of football, Swimming & Water-Sports, Cycling and Track & Field Events, (marathon, road racing, triathlon). A total of 78 3, 4 and 5 star hotels, A' class tourist apartments , Sports Organisations/Federations and Facilities, Travel Agencies and sports organisers took part in the survey.

    [02] Spokesman: Cyprus on a good track to meet its financial needs for April

    Government Spokesman Stephanos Stephanou has said that Cyprus is on a good track to meet its financial needs for April.

    Stephanou also noted that Russia seems to be interested in engaging in the rescue plan for Cyprus economy, depending on the developments and decisions to be taken at European level.

    Asked if Cyprus can meet its financial needs for April, Stephanou recalled that Finance Minister Vasos Shiarly has said that at the end of each month it is possible to re-evaluate the needs for the following months, depending on how things evolved during the previous month.

    [03] Foreign Minister returns from Santiago and flies to Belgrade

    Minister of Foreign Affairs Erato Kozakou Markoullis departs on Tuesday for Belgrade, to participate in a delegation of Ministers accompanying President of the Republic Demetris Christofias at the Cyprus-Serbia Intergovernmental Meeting.

    Markoullis returned from Santiago on Monday, where on January 26 and 27 she participated in the EU - Latin America and Caribbean Meeting, both on a Ministers and heads of state level, representing President Christofias. The Meeting adopted an action plan for the years 2013-2015, as well as the Santiago Declaration, which sets out the next steps to strengthen relations between the EU and Latin America and the Caribbean.

    On the sidelines of the Meeting, Markoullis met with her counterparts of Cuba, Guinea, Costa Rica and El Salvador, focusing on bilateral relations, the Cyprus problem, and relations between Latin American countries and the EU.

    [04] CTO satisfied with prospects for tourism from Germany

    A Cyprus Tourism Organisation (CTO) delegation discussed developments in the German tourist market with the country`s main travel agents, during a visit to Frankfurt last week.

    According to a press release, an increase in tourism from Germany is expected this year and there are favourable prospects for the coming years.

    Furthermore, cooperation among the travel agents and also with the CTO was agreed, with an aim to increase the number of seats on flights from Germany to Cyprus, from three different points in the country, for the period March-November 2014.

    [05] Buttenheim: CMP cooperation effective model of confidence-building

    Cooperation between all parties to the CMP is an effective model for building confidence between the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot communities, UN Secretary General's Special Representative in Cyprus Lisa Buttenheim has said.

    According to an UNFICYP press release, Buttenheim took the opportunity to praise the cooperation of CMP members, upon welcoming the arrival in Cyprus of Paul-Henri Arni, the third CMP.

    Arni succeeds Christophe Girod who concluded his tour of duty last summer, the press release says.
