  • [01] Assistant Commissioner of Electronic Communications & Postal Regulation appointed

Electronic communications and postal services are a rapidly evolving sector that helps improve the quality of life and contributes to economic growth, said President Demetris Christofias, in his speech during the affirmation ceremony of the new Assistant Commissioner of Electronic Communications & Postal Regulation Petros Galides, held today at the Presidential Palace.

President Chirstofias said that the Office of the Commissioner of Electronic Communications & Postal Regulation works consistently for the harmonious development of the sector, in the context of an informed government policy aiming to protect and ensure consumer benefits.

"Safeguarding the citizen's interests is the cornerstone on which our policies for internal governance are founded," he said. The President also said that the Office of the Commissioner has presented during eleven years of operation rich work with regard to the harmonization of Cypriot legislation with European legislation, consumer protection and the development of healthy competition in the electronic communications and postal services.

He added that the operation of the institution is governed by the principles of transparency, equal treatment, non-discrimination, impartiality and sound administration.

[02] CB - Black Rock sign cooperation agreement

An agreement of cooperation was signed on Monday between the Central Bank of Cyprus and Black Rock, which will take over the auxiliary role of evaluating the findings of Pimco's due diligence.

The American multinational investment management corporation and leading asset manager Black Rock will be the consultant that will cooperate with the Central Bank to verify the due diligence of Cypriot banks, carried out by US firm Pimco in December, on the amount necessary for the recapitalisation of Cyprus' banking sector.

According to CNA sources, the two sides reached an agreement after a teleconference that lasted four hours. The same sources have said that the two sides came to an agreement after Pimco and BlackRock, which are competitors, drafted the necessary legal framework which defines the method of cooperation between the two companies and allows them to safeguard confidentiality for both sides.
