    • [01] New Bank of Cyprus CEO "excited" over appointment

    The newly appointed chief executive of Bank of Cyprus John Hourican said he was "very excited" about the new challenge in a country with such a large banking sector, according to the Financial Times.

    Speaking to the British paper, the 43 year old Irish banker said: "The opportunity to make a real difference not only to the bank but to the country as a whole is a significantly interesting challenge."

    He added that his appointment was indefinite but envisaged three to five years for the restructuring of the bank.

    [02] Communications Minister: Tourism can boost economy

    The tourism sector has proven that it can give fresh impetus to the country`s economy with collective efforts, Minister of Communications and Works Tasos Mitsopoulos has said, noting that "we must all work together so that with coordinated and focused efforts we support our tourist product, with an aim to further upgrade it."

    Addressing an event on tourism in Cyprus, Mitsopoulos said his Ministry will continue efforts to strengthen the sector, which could contribute to the island`s economic recovery.

    Mitsopoulos said the multifaceted nature of tourism demanded cooperation and coordination of state services and the private sector.

    [03] Agriculture Minister visits Israel

    Minister of Agriculture, Natural Resources and the Environment Nikos Kouyialis departed on Tuesday night for Tel Aviv, Israel, where Cyprus will be honoured for its contribution in the preservation of natural resources.

    During his stay in Tel Aviv, Kouyialis will meet Israeli officials and will visit WATEC 2013 taking place there. Kouyialis is escorted by Water Development Department Director.
