[01] Eurostat: Cyprus' public debt at 86.6% of GDP in 2012Cyprus' public debt increased in 2012 and stood at 86.6% of GDP, Eurostat revised final data published on Monday show.In particular, public debt stood at 15,350 billion euro or 86.6% of GDP in 2012 compared to 12,778 billion euro or 71.5% of GDP in 2011. It constitutes the second greatest debt increase in the euro zone after Spain. [02] Government to speed up efforts for exploitation of natural gasThe Ministry of Energy is making efforts to speed up the exploitation of natural gas reserves in Cyprus' Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), Minister of Energy, Trade, Industry and Tourism, Yiorgos Lakkotrypis has said.He added that the Ministry's aim is to lift Cyprus' energy isolation from European networks as well as to enforce energy safety through the further development of renewable energy sources and better energy use. Speaking at a press conference in Nicosia, during which the annual economic report of the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) for 2012 was presented, Lakkotrypis recalled that the European Commission, on the 14th of October had announced a list of 250 infrastructure projects that may qualify for €5,85 billion of funding. [03] More Cyprus residents travelled abroad in SeptemberSlightly more Cyprus residents travelled abroad this September compared to September 2012, Cyprus Statistical data released on Monday show.The data, based on the results of a Passenger Survey, show that 119,546 residents of Cyprus returned from a trip abroad in September 2013 compared to 118,702 in the corresponding month last year, recording an increase of 0.7%. In September 2013 there was a drop of 8.7% on the trips of residents to Greece, from 41.731 in September 2012 to 38.121 in September 2013. On the other hand a rise of 13.6% was recorded on trips to the United Kingdom, from 29.700 in 2012 to 33.730 this year. [04] Annual industrial turnover in Cyprus down by 13.8% in JulyAnnual industrial turnover was down by 13.8% in July 2013, according to Cyprus Statistical data released on Monday.In particular, the Industrial Turnover Index for July 2013 reached 119.8 units (base 2005=100), recording a drop of 13.8% compared to July 2012. For the period January-July 2013, the index was down by 12.9% compared to the same period of the previous year.
