  • [01] Justice Minister to participate in EU Council in Luxembourg

    The Minister of Justice and Public Order Ionas Nicolaou departs on Sunday for Luxembourg to participate in the meeting of the EU Justice and Home Affairs Council, to be held on 7 and 8 October, 2013.

    According to an official announcement, the discussion will focus on the proposal for a Directive of the European Parliament and the Council on the protection of individuals against the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data, and on the proposal for Directive of the Council on the establishing a European Prosecutor.

    Additionally, the EU Ministers will discuss the proposal for a Directive of the European Parliament and the Council on the protection of the Euro and other currencies against counterfeiting.

    [02] PACE calls on all involved to take all necessary measures regarding missing persons

    The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) has adopted a resolution calling on all its member states and relevant de facto authorities to take all necessary measures to recover the human remains of missing persons and return them to their families, whenever possible.

    The discussion in the assembly was vivid with interventions made by many Cypriot, Greek, Turkish and Turkish Cypriots members.

    Addressing the Assembly, Cypriot MP Athina Kyriakidou has stressed that the issue of missing persons constitutes "an open wound" for both missing persons' families and society as a whole, an official press release issued here, on Thursday, says.
