  • [01] Excavations for 2013 at Kissonerga-Skalia settlement completed

Fine plaster floors, large amounts of broken pottery, and other objects, such as stone tools for processing food and other materials, gaming stones, copper chisels, and shell, stone and bone pendants and beads, were among the findings of the 2013 season of excavations at the Bronze Age settlement of Kissonerga-Skalia near Paphos.

The excavation was carried out during July by a University of Manchester team under the direction of Dr Lindy Crewe. The team uncovered further evidence of a large building complex dating to the threshold of the Late Cypriot Bronze Age (around 1750-1600 BC), which had been partially revealed in previous seasons and also investigated a series of floors in an earlier domestic area dating to the Early Bronze Age (around 2300-1900 BC).

During the final phase of occupation a large complex covering an area of 750 square metres was built, using a variety of techniques with thick stone wall foundations up to 1.2 metres wide.

A large wall of uncertain function now extends to over 45 metres long and is not yet fully excavated. After the previous season, the wall enclosed an area of around 20 x 10 metres, but this season it has turned back on itself to form an ‘S-shape'.

[02] Political parties to continue bicommunal dialogue

Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot political party leaders will meet on September 25 in the buffer zone in Nicosia, in the framework of the bicommunal dialogue organised by the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Cyprus.

According to a press release, the meeting will begin at 1030 local time at the Ledra Palace in Nicosia, and a statement on the dialogue will follow.

The Slovak Åmbassy in Cyprus has been engaged since 1989 in a bicommunal dialogue, and hosts regular sessions between Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot political parties at Ledra Palace hotel, in the UN-controlled buffer zone, dividing the northern Turkish occupied part of the island from the southern government controlled areas.

[03] Russians interested in further investing in BoC, says Ambassador

The Russian investors have expressed interest in further investing in Bank of Cyprus, the Russian Ambassador Stanislav Osadchiy said Friday.

Speaking to the press following a meeting with George Lillikas, President of the movement "Citizens Alliance", the Russian Ambassador expressed his satisfaction over the election of six Russians at the BoC Board, noting that the delay in the selection of the names, didn't influence the whole situation.

He went on to say that Russia closely watch follows the developments at BoC and the Cyprus economy in general , adding that the presence of the Russians in the Board will assist in the recovery of the economy.
