[01] Government expresses satisfaction over new BoC Board
The government has expressed "satisfaction and relief" over the election
of a new Board of Directors of the Bank of Cyprus (BoC).
In statements he made at the Presidential Palace, on Wednesday, Deputy
Government Spokesman Victoras Papadopoulos noted that the government
did its utmost in recent months so that the bank can return to normality.
The election of a new Board of Directors has signaled a new era, he
said, "during which the economy will recover and all obstacles will
be overcome".
[02] Minister acknowledges progress in combating piracy
Communications and Works Minister Tasos Mitsopoulos referred on Wednesday
to progress that has been achieved during the last years in combating
piracy. He also condemned on behalf of the Cyprus government, piracy
incidents off the shore of Somalia and elsewhere.
Mitsopoulos was addressing an international conference, in the United
Arab Emirates, on "Countering Maritime Piracy: Continued Efforts for
Regional Capacity Building".
According to an official announcement, Cyprus takes part for the first
time at the conference, which is being held for a third consecutive year
at the UAE.
