  • [01] Production test in block 12 to resume in the coming days, CNHC says

    Production test which will show the quality or the reservoir in block 12 will resume in the coming days, President of the Cyprus National Hydrocarbons Company Charles Ellinas (CNHC) has said.

    Last Thursday the Cypriot Energy Ministry announced that the production test could not be completed due to "mechanical complications."

    "Repairs are being made for the replacement of the valve that has malfunctioned. I`ve spoken to Noble today and it seems that they will resume the production test by the middle of the week," Ellinas said speaking to CNA, describing the problem that emerged as usual.

    Cyprus is a safe destination and a centre of stability and peace, Defence Minister Photis Photiou has said, adding that there must be no concern or panic due to a possible military attack against Syria.

    In statements on Monday, and responding to questions on the issue, Photiou said that ‘we are taking all the necessary measures'.

    He noted that ‘currently we are focusing on the humanitarian aspect of the whole issue, with a view to help and provide facilities to citizens of foreign countries who wish to use Cyprus.'

    [03] President: Hydrocarbons open new opportunities for Cyprus-Egypt relations

    The efforts of Cyprus and Egypt to explore and exploit the hydrocarbons reserves that exist in their Exclusive Economic Zones, have opened up new opportunities for further enhancing the strategic relations between Cyprus and Egypt, said Monday President of the Republic Nicos Anastasiades, receiving the credentials of the new Ambassador of Egypt, Heba Salaheldin Elmarassi.

    " The strengthening of our bilateral relations in energy matters, with particular emphasis in the field of hydrocarbons, will have positive effects in terms of ensuring the economic development and prosperity of the peoples of both countries, thus fostering peace and security in the Eastern Mediterranean", said the President.

    He added that the cooperation in the field of hydrocarbons could also serve as a catalyst for a broader cooperation on a regional level.

    [04] Uruguay supports a solution to the Cyprus issue based on UN resolutions

    Uruguay will continue to support the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of the Republic of Cyprus and all the efforts displayed in order to reach a comprehensive settlement of the Cyprus problem, based on the principles contained in the relevant United Nations Security Council Resolutions, new Ambassador of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay, stationed in Beirut, Marta Inés Pizzanelli, said on Monday.

    Presenting her credentials to the President of the Republic Nicos Anastasiades said that we sincerely hope that a relaunching of the negotiations under the aegis of the Secretary General of the United Nations will achieve the goal to find a satisfactory solution.

    The new Ambassador conveyed to President Anastasiades the message of the President of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay, José Mujica, who is sending his best wishes for the prosperity and happiness of the people of Cyprus and the success of your recently formed Government.

    [05] We cannot afford another failure to solve the Cyprus issue, President says

    The relaunching of negotiations, aiming at a fair, viable and mutually acceptable Cyprus settlement, "remains our first priority", President Nicos Anastasiades said on Monday.

    According to an official announcement, the President of the Republic said that "we cannot afford another failure", while characterizing as desirable, the substantive involvement of the EU in this procedure.

    Speaking during a formal ceremony at the Presidential Palace, while receiving the credentials of the new Ambassador of the Kingdom of Denmark Casper Klynge, President Anastasiades said the settlement must serve, above all, the legitimate interests of the Cypriot people as a whole and not that of any third country.
