  • [01] Namibia supports Cyprus solution based on UN resolutions

Namibia President Hifikepunye Pohamba has expressed his sorrow for the continued division of Cyprus and his country's support for a solution of the Cyprus issue on the basis of UN resolutions and international law.

Pohamba was speaking during an event after new Cyprus High Commissioner to Namibia Petros Nakouzi, who is based in South Africa, had presented him with his credentials, an official press release issued here, on Monday, says.

Pohamba and Nakouzi spoke of the excellent relations between the two countries and their wish to further enhance bilateral relations in all areas.

[02] Boosting development main parameter for recovery, says Archbishop

Archbishop Chrysostomos II said he was optimistic about the course of the country's economy, while noting that the main parameter for its recovery lay in boosting development.

The Primate of the Church of Cyprus also revealed that investors from Russia were planning to visit the island after August 15, in order to discuss possible investments with the government, mainly in the area of tourism and energy. The Archbishop said he had met with investors during a recent visit to Moscow, to attend celebrations for the 1025th anniversary of the introduction of Christianity in the country.

Speaking on Saturday, during a memorial service for the First President of the Republic, Archbishop Makarios, at the Monastery of Kykkos, Chrysostomos II said his optimism concerning the economy was founded on people's ability to work tirelessly in order to survive.
