  • [01] Commission unveils Action Plan for a more effective defence and security sector

A more influential Europe needs a strong and active common foreign and security policy, the European Commission noted on Wednesday, while presenting a Communication containing an Action Plan to enhance the efficiency and competitiveness of Europe's defence and security sector.

The Communication foresees measures to strengthen the internal market for defence, to promote a more competitive defence industry and to foster synergies between civil and military research.

Moreover, the Communication explores options in other areas such as energy, space and dual-use capabilities. The Commission invites Heads of State and Government to discuss this Communication at the European Council in December 2013, together with the report prepared by the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.

[02] Our duty is to continue fighting for justice, House President says

Justice will only come with the restitution of the rights of all refugees, by granting them the right to return to their homes and properties, and exercise their political, democratic and human rights in their ancestral homes, House President Yiannakis Omirou said on Wednesday.

He added that "it is our duty to continue our fight for a Cyprus solution, in an uncompromising manner."

The Municipalities, the Union of Communities and the refugee associations of the Turkish-occupied District of Kyrenia met today with the President of the House of Representatives and delivered a resolution, demanding justice.
