of Cyprus [01] Bavaria Police hands over looted icons from Turkish occupied areas of CyprusThe Police in Bavaria, Germany, handed over Tuesday icons, mosaics and murals, which were looted by a Turkish citizen and were found in Germany following a police investigation in 1997.The ceremony took place in the presence of the Head of the Church of Cyprus Representation to the EU, Bishop Porphyrios, Head of the Criminal Department of the Bavaria Police, Peter Dathe, Minister of Justice of Bavaria Dr. Beate Merk, Eleni Papanicolaou Consul at the Cyprus Embassy in Berlin as well as conservators from the Cyprus Department of Antiquities. According to a press release by the Bavaria Police, the investigation by the Munich authorities found out that the stolen objects "came from churches and chapels in the Turkish occupied part in northern Cyprus" which can now be returned. [02] President: Talks to resume when conditions allow tangible resultsPresident of the Republic Nicos Anastasiades has stressed that the Cyprus talks, aiming at reunifying the divided island, could resume only when conditions are such that they would lead to tangible results.In his speech at the anti-occupation event organised by the Coordination Committee of Kythrea, (a Cypriot town under Turkish occupation since 1974), the President noted that the economic crisis Cyprus is currently facing does not distract the state from its major objective, which is a just and viable solution of the Cyprus problem. "Our determination for a solution is strong and preparations for the resumption of the talks continue," he said, in his speech, which was read out by the Minister of Labor and Social Insurance Zeta Emilianidou. [03] National Council appoints negotiator for direct talksThe National Council, the top advisory body to the President dealing with the Cyprus problem, appointed Ambassador Andreas Mavroyiannis as negotiator for the Greek Cypriot community, in the UN-led peace talks expected to resume in Autumn.Mavroyiannis is currently the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Previously he served as Deputy Minister to the President for European Affairs and his portfolio included the overall responsibility for preparing and seeing through the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU, in the second semester of 2012. For the past couple of decades, the Presidents of the Republic have served as negotiators of the Greek Cypriot side in the direct talks between the island's two communities. [04] Cyprus Telecommunications Authority records positive results for 2012Cyprus Telecommunications Authority (Cyta) has recorded positive results for 2012 despite the challenging economic environment with its earnings from operations amounting to €63,7 million compared to €67,2 million in 2011.At the same time, the Organization's predictions for 2013 are also promising. The financial results of the organization were presented by Stathis Kittis, CyTA`s chairman of the board of directors, during a press conference held here today. Kittis noted that despite a very difficult economic environment, with negative growth rates and intense competition, Cyta, with a serious and prudent management of its finances, managed to produce positive results and at the same time, to stand by the country during these crucial times of economic crisis.
