[01] Finance Minister: Cyprus preparing for first assessment by TroikaCyprus' Finance Minister Haris Georgiades has said that the government is preparing intensively for the first assessment by Troika, on July 17, adding that it has been agreed with EU partners that the Bank's of Cyprus exit from the resolution regime as soon as possible is a top priority.Referring to the Eurogroup meeting and to the discussion on the progress Cyprus achieved in implementing the bailout programme, Georgiades said that he explained that the government is preparing and looking forward to this assessment. The main question is the banking sector, especially the issue of the Bank of Cyprus and "the need to exit the resolution regime without further delay," Georgiades said. [02] National Council discusses issue of top negotiatorThe issue of the top negotiator for the Greek-Cypriot side was brought up on Tuesday in a meeting of the National Council at the Presidential Palace under the presidency of President Nicos Anastasiades.President Anastasiades had said in the past that he plans to appoint a negotiator on behalf of the Greek Cypriot side during the UN negotiations on the Cyprus problem. [04] Australian Senate President supports UN resolutions on CyprusAustralian Senate President John Hogg has expressed Australia's full support to the implementation of the provisions of UN resolutions on Cyprus.Hogg who is currently visiting Cyprus heading a parliamentarian delegation from Australia, met with House President Yiannakis Omirou. According to an official press release, they discussed issues related to the economic crisis in Cyprus and the Cyprus problem. [05] Cyprus and UK agree to strengthen relations in defence and securityBilateral relations and the situation in the area, notably Syria and Egypt, were the issues discussed between the Cypriot Defence Minister Fotis Fotiou and Minister of State for the Armed Forces of the United Kingdom Andrew Robathan.The two ministers met in Nicosia and agreed to strengthen relations between the two countries in the areas of defence and security. Speaking to the Press after the meeting, Fotiou noted that they discussed various issues concerning bilateral relations and "the whole situation in the area, as far as Syria is concerned, as far as Egypt is concerned and the instability in the region".
