[01] Children's Rights Commissioner delivers annual report to PresidentRespect for children's rights is an indication of how civilized society is, Cyprus President Demetris Christofias said on Tuesday, receiving the Children's Rights Commissioner annual report for 2011.From her part, Commissioner Leda Koursoumba said that progress on the matter is "slow, but steady" and thanked President Christofias personally for his instructions to his government to act upon the Commissioner's recommendations. The President also noted that a change of mindset is steadily settling in concerning children's rights and said that the issue was close to his heart. [02] EC report says Cyprus and Spain face high fiscal sustainability risksCyprus is facing high risks concerning the sustainability of its public finances, along with Spain, says the annual Fiscal Sustainability Report 2012, issued by the European Commission.The report notes that the problems in both countries were exacerbated by problems in their respective financial sectors. The annual report, presented by Economic and Monetary Affairs Commissioner Olli Rehn, does not refer to Greece, Ireland or Portugal, since the sustainability of the three countries' public finances is part of their adjustment programs. [03] Cyprus EU Presidency achieved all energy targets, Minister saysThe Cyprus EU Presidency has achieved all its goals in the field of energy, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism Neoklis Sylikiotis stressed Tuesday, describing at the same time as a great success the agreement on the Unitary Patent Protection package and as an important achievement the Negotiating Mandate for a Free Trade Agreement between the EU and Japan.Speaking to journalists in Brussels, Sylikiotis expressed satisfaction with the fact that the Presidency has achieved all its targets in the field of energy. He recalled that Council Conclusions were adopted on Renewable Energy Sources, while considerable progress has been achieved on the proposed Directive on safety of offshore oil and gas exploration and production activities. [04] Cypriot businesses awarded "Investors in People" grantThirty-eight Cypriot enterprises and organizations were awarded on Tuesday the "Investors in People" grant for the promotion of excellent practices and standards in the field of human resources.The "Investors in People" project is co-funded by the European Social Fund and the Republic of Cyprus, in coordination with the Cyprus Employers' Federation. The awards were presented by the Minister of Labour Soteroulla Charalambous, the British High Commissioner Matthew Kid and the Director of the European Social Fund Unit at the Labour Ministry Alexandros Alexandrou. Fifty countries and a total of 70.000 companies around the globe participate in the project. [05] November tourist arrivals down by 9.5%November 2012 tourist arrivals in Cyprus declined by 9.5% year on year, reaching 84.020 compared to 92.878 in November 2011.On the basis of the results of the Passengers Survey, carried out by the Statistical Service, tourist arrivals from the United Kingdom, Cyprus` biggest tourist market, declined by 15,5% (29.392 compared to 34.796 in November 2011), whereas arrivals from Germany registered a decrease of 33,9 (11.188 compared to 16.934 last year). Tourist arrivals from Russia increased by 66,3 %, reaching 10.806 in November of the current year compared with 6.496 in November 2011, while arrivals from Greece reached 10.301 from 9.566 in November 2011, marking an increase of 7.7%.
