[01] Minister of Labour stresses need for solidarity between generations
Solidarity between generations and involving civil society are paramount
for the creation of a Europe for all ages, Minister of Labour and Social
Insurance Soteroula Charalambous has said.
Charalambous was addressing a conference on "Active Ageing: Solidarity
and Gender Equality Keys to Effective strategies on active ageing",
in Nicosia, on Saturday.
European Year of Active Ageing and Solidarity focuses on inclusive growth,
the promotion of a healthy and energetic ageing population, the promotion
of social justice and protection, gender equality and solidarity between
generations, she noted.
[02] Cyprus EU Presidency receives praise from European officials
The work achieved so far by the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the
EU has received praise from European Parliament President Martin Shultz
and leader of the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and
Democrats in the European Parliament Hannes Swoboda.
According to an official press release issued here on Sunday, the two men
had separate meetings on Saturday, with Minister of Health Stavros Malas,
who was representing President of the Republic Demetris Christofias at
the European Socialist Party Conference, in Brussels.
It is noted that during the meetings both Shultz and Swoboda praised
the work achieved so far by the Cyprus Presidency, expressing their
satisfaction over the serious and effective handling of the European
agenda by the Cyprus government.
