    The Government of Cyprus denounces Turkey's provocative decision to issue licenses for petroleum operations in sea areas that include blocks from Cyprus' Exclusive Economic Zone.

    In a statement of his, issued on Sunday, Government Spokesman Stephanos Stephanou underlines that Turkey's decision is a continuation of its actions that violate the international law, in particular the Law of the Sea.

    "The Government of Cyprus denounces Turkey's illegalities and provocations and takes all necessary steps to defend the Republic's sovereign rights" he points out.

    [02] Omirou: International and European community must react to Turkish provocations

    House President Yiannakis Omirou has said that the international and the European community must react to the official announcement in the official gazette of Turkey that areas spanning from Rhodes to the south west of Cyprus are given out for hydrocarbons studies and drilling. Maps published in the official gazette show that the permits stretch as far as he Greek island of Rhodes as well as plots 1, 4, 5, 6 and 7 delineated by the Republic of Cyprus in the eastern Mediterranean.

    Replying to a question, Omirou said that it is obvious that Turkey is trying to create a climate of tension and destabilization in the region, in the framework of a plan it has which includes provocations after the assumption of the EU rotating Presidency by the Republic of Cyprus, on July 1st, 2012, such as efforts for the recognition of the Turkish Cypriot puppet regime, the opening of the fenced off town of Famagusta under Turkish administration and efforts to promote direct trade between Cyprus' occupied areas and EU member states.

    [03] FM meets European Parliament's rapporteur on Turkey

    Foreign Minister Erato Kozakou Markoulli and MEP, rapporteur of Turkey's progress report, Ria Oomen-Ruijten discussed the Cyprus issue, EU-Turkish relationships and Turkey's accession negotiations, in a meeting held Friday afternoon.

    According to an official press release, the European Parliament's Turkey rapporteur is paying a visit to Cyprus at the invitation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cypriot MEPs.

    Markoulli and Oomen-Ruijten exchanged views on Turkey's attitude in relation to the EU Cyprus Presidency, due to begin on July 1.

    In the framework of her visit to Cyprus the MEP held contacts with state officials and representatives of the civil society, in the presence of the Foreign Minister.

    She also met with the Mayor of Famagusta Alexis Galanos, as well as with the bi-communal non-governmental women's organization ``Hands Across the Divide`` and a group of Turkish-Cypriot activists.

    Foreign Minister hosted a dinner in honor of Ria Oomen-Ruijten, joined by Cypriot MEPs, the Foreign Ministry Permanent Secretary Petros Eftychiou and other officials.

    [04] Labour Minister: Reduction of unemployment directly related to growth

    Reduction of unemployment is directly related to growth Minister of Labour Sotiroula Charalambous pointed out, referring to the new project of the Ministry aiming to create one thousand jobs.

    The Minister said the project has already been approved by the Cabinet with view of boosting employment among young persons up to 29 years old or people who have been jobless for more than seven months, through funding salaries by 50% and in the case of the constructions sector by 65%.

    Charalambous said the Ministry will be in a position to accept applications for participation in the program from those companies interested in the next days, with a view to give job to one thousand jobless persons.
