[01] Greece dissatisfied over Cyprus stalemateGreek Minister of Foreign Affairs Stavros Demas has expressed his government`s dissatisfaction over the stalemate in the direct talks to solve the Cyprus problem, stressing that the Turkish Cypriot side has shown continuous retreats in the course of the negotiations. Demas, who will be accompanying Greek Prime Minister Loukas Papademos on his two-day official visit to Cyprus, beginning on Thursday, told CNA that the Cyprus issue remains an issue of invasion and occupation for the Greek government, stressing that Greece will continue to struggle for a just and viable solution and for the reunification of the island.He said that the negotiations must be Cypriot-led and Cypriot-owned and that the people of Cyprus should decide upon the future of their united country. Demas also expressed Greece's discomfort over Turkey's threats as regards the assumption of the Presidency of the Council of the EU by Cyprus.Cyprus, an EU member since May 2004, will assume the six-monthly rotating EU Presidency in July 2012. Turkey, which does not recognise the Republic of Cyprus, has threatened to freeze its relations with the EU when Cyprus assumes the EU Presidency. The Greek Foreign Minister also referred to explorations and the exploitation of Greece's natural resources, noting that the Greek government has shown its will to cooperate with neighboring countries, including Cyprus. He added that the brotherly relations with the Republic of Cyprus, as well as the steady cooperation with Israel, are the ideal basis for the further development of the collaboration. Asked about the Turkish threats on Cyprus' sovereign right to exploit its natural resources found in its exclusive economic zone, Demas described these threats as unfounded, noting that the international community has condemned them. In his interview with CNA, Demas also referred to the current economic situation in Greece, noting that there is a great deal of things that need to be done and therefore the next Government's task is hard. [02] Brunei supports peaceful solution of Cyprus problemBrunei Darussalam supports the peaceful solution of the Cyprus problem through dialogue, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu`izzaddin Waddaulah has said.Receiving on March 29 the credentials of Cyprus` new High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam, based in Jakarta, Nicos Panayi, the Sultan said Brunei Darussalam also attributes importance to developing its relations with Cyprus. Panayi informed the Sultan on the latest developments in the Cyprus problem and said he looked forward to strengthening bilateral relations. [03] APOEL concludes Champions League courseNicosia football club APOEL concluded its course in the Champions League against Real Madrid, having made it to the eight best teams.APOEL lost 5-2 to Real in Santiago Bernabeu stadium in Madrid, with an 8-2 aggregate, having lost 3-0 to Real in their previous game at home. Real Madrid has qualified to the Champions League semifinals, where it will face Bayern Munich, while APOEL returns home after a glorious course, having played a total of 16 games. Despite Real`s dominance with 66% against 34% of APOEL, the Nicosia team managed to score two goals in Wednesday`s game away, with Manduca and Solari. Real was winning 2-0 at halftime, with goals by Cristiano Ronaldo at 26` and Kaka at 37`. In the second half, Gustavo Manduca scored at 67` for APOEL and Cristiano Ronaldo followed at 75` for Real, making the score 3-1. Jose Callejon scored for Real at 80` and two minutes later Esteban Solari scored a penalty for APOEL making the score 4-2. The final goal of the match was scored by Angel di Maria at 84` for Real.
