[01] Israeli Prime Minister to visit Cyprus mid February

An Israeli embassy official in Nicosia told CNA Tuesday that the purpose of Netanyahu`s visit would be to further strengthen relations between the two countries.

The Prime Minister of Israel will come to Cyprus to emphasize the good relations between the two countries and to strengthen the bilateral relations, which are already good, the official said.

[02] National Council agrees Greentree framework

According to a statement read out by the Government Spokesman Stephanos Stephanou following the 3-hour meeting of the National Council, the main issues the Council agreed on is that President Demetris Christofias must not accept any deadlines, arbitration or an international conference unless the two sides agree on the internal aspects of the Cyprus problem.

The statement reads that since the last meeting between UNSG and the leaders of the two communities in Cyprus, no progress has been made in the direct talks.

Replying to a question the Spokesman said that having the National Councils support, the President feels even stronger ahead of the Greentree meeting. He said that there has been consensus and agreement on most of the issues, although on the issue of international conference different views have been expressed.

[03] President of KOA - Interview with CNA

In an interview with CNA, three months after assuming the Presidency of KOA, Stylianou said that the aim of KOA is to implement Strategic Plan 2020.

He said this was a priority and would set the foundations for further development of sports in Cyprus, adding that the Strategic Plan covered all aspects of sports.

Referring to the Olympic Games, Stylianou said KOA would help the athletes in their preparations to qualify for the Games and provide assistance so that those who do qualify participate in the Games with all necessary means. Stylianou said those who qualify are supported financially, along with their trainer, adding that ``our role is complementary.`` He explained that ``these athletes are also supported through the Olympic Solidarity, and their own federations.``

``I must point out that in these issues there is full cooperation with the Olympic Committee which, at the end of the day, is responsible for the mission to the Olympic Games,`` he said.

[04] Recent rainfall fills over 50% of local reservoirs

``The total quantity of water stored in all the dams is about 149 million cubic meters. At present 51.2% of the dams capacity has been covered,`` he added, noting that this percentage is higher than the figures during corresponding period last year. The total water quantity stored reaches 148.827 million cubic meters compared to 140.014 in the corresponding period last year, while water storage now stands at 51.2% compared to 48.1% in the corresponding period last year.

``We are now at 51.2% as far as water storage is concerned, last year it was 48.1%. We are hopeful that due to the increased inflow we will do much better than last year. The rainfall in the past few days is a good sign. We are optimistic that the flow will continue and more water will be stored in our dams,`` he stressed.

Kyrou noted that some dams began to overflow, like the Klerou-Malountas-Akaki and the Xyliatou dams in Nicosia district and the Argaka and Pomos dams, in the Pafos district.

The total inflow of water in dams since October 1, last year reached 32.815 million cubic meters.
