[01] President: struggle for solution to continuePresident of the Republic of Cyprus Demetris Christofias has assured that ``we will continue with all our might to work in the direction of a solution, for the liberation and reunification of our homeland and people, to create a new hopeful prospect, to achieve a solution of a bizonal bicommunal federation.``Speaking at the presentation of a book by journalist Costas Yenaris, President Christofias said that the Greek Cypriot side`s approach was that ``division is a disaster for our homeland and people.`` He added that ``both at the negotiating table and with the continuous initiatives we undertake, we have proven beyond any doubt our determination and willingness to reach a solution the soonest possible.`` ``This cannot be questioned by anyone. If we do not reach a solution in the near future, this will be exclusively due to the negative stance of the Turkish Cypriot side and Turkey,`` he pointed out. Cyprus has been divided since 1974, when Turkey invaded and occupied its northern third. The two sides are currently engaged in UN-led negotiations with an aim to reunify the island. [02] House plenary to vote on 2012 state budgetThe House of Representatives will vote on Friday on the 2012 state budget.The 56 members of Parliament will hold their final discussion on the state budget and voting will follow. The budget total revenue for 2012, excluding loans, are estimated at 7,740 million euro and total expenditure (including loan repayments) at 8,924 million euro, compared to 8,860 million euro budgeted for 2011. [03] Ukraine supports Cyprus solution based on principlesUkraine remains firm on a Cyprus solution based on international law, EU principles and the resolutions of the UN Security Council, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, Ukraines Parliament, Volodymyr Lytvyn has said.Lytvyn also expressed his countrys support to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Cyprus. While on an official visit in Cyprus, Lytvyn, who is heading a delegation of the Ukrainian Parliament, met on Friday with the President of the House of Representatives Yiannakis Omirou and the two sides signed a Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation between the two Parliaments. Speaking to the press after the meeting, Omirou thanked Lytvyn for the steady support the Parliament and the government of Ukraine offers to the struggle of the Cypriot people to reach a Cyprus solution, based on international and European law. [04] FM: Cyprus to host EU Arab informal meetingCyprus is planning to host an Informal Meeting of EU Ministers of Foreign Affairs with their Arab League counterparts, during the Cypriot EU presidency, at the 2nd half of 2012, Minister of Foreign Affairs Erato Kozakou Markoullis has said.Addressing a seminar on Thursday at the University of Cyprus on Cyprus, Europe and the Middle East, Markoullis noted that the Cyprus EU presidency is a very important opportunity to further consolidate and deepen Cyprus role in the region as an honest and impartial EU link with the Arab countries. Right now we are planning to host an Informal Meeting of EU Ministers of Foreign Affairs with their Arab League counterparts, a meeting which will be extremely useful, she said. Markoullis pointed out that organizing such a meeting is of great importance. Such a ministerial forum will aim to review political changes after the Arab Spring, as well as the effect it has had on Europe, she added.
