    Cyprus Foreign Minister Erato Kozakou Marcoullis and her Bulgarian counterpart counterpart Nickolay Mladenov have signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the exchange of diplomats of both countries. Marcoullis, who is paying an official visit to Sofia, also discussed bilateral relations, Cyprus problem, Turkey-EU relations and Turkish threats against the exercise of Cyprus sovereign right to search for hydrocarbon reserves within its Exclusive Economic Zone.

    According to an official announcement, the excellent level of bilateral relations has been confirmed during the meeting of the two Foreign Ministers. Marcoullis and Mladenov exchanged views on how to further enhance those bilateral relations.

    Cyprus FM briefed her counterpart on the latest developments in the Cyprus problem. They also discussed EU enlargement, the Cyprus Presidency of the European Council in the second half of 2012, EU-Turkey relations and the Turkish threats against the exercise of Cyprus sovereign right to search for hydrocarbon reserves within its Exclusive Economic Zone.

    In addition, the two Foreign Ministers discussed, during a working lunch, issues of bilateral cooperation and the Eurozone crisis.

    [02] Cyprus accepts 7,85 millions grant

    Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway donated Monday the total amount of 7.85 million euros assistance to Cyprus for the period 2009-2014.

    According to an official announcement, the assistance is given in the framework of an agreement of the three countries with the EU, to support the new EU Member States.

    Cyprus and the three donor states signed two Memoranda of Understanding, one for the EEA Grants and one for the Grant of Norway.

    The grants aim to promote various projects concerning the protection of biodiversity and ecosystems, the protection of children and youth, the preservation of cultural heritage, public health, to prevent and combat domestic violence, to strengthen systems for combating economic crime and to support civil society. Some of the projects are bi-communal and are expected to help promoting bi-communal contacts.
