[01] PRESIDENT CHRISTIFIAS - HOMER DRILLING RIGPresident of the Republic Demetris Christofias is on his way Monday to the Noble Homer Ferrington drilling rig where exploratory drilling is underway in the islands Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) to locate possible hydrocarbons in the Republics Block 12 Aphrodite, south of Cyprus.The President arrived at Limassol Port just before 0930 local time and departed via helicopter with his entourage at 1005. President Christofias is accompanied by Commerce, Industry and Tourism Minister Praxoula Antoniadou, Agriculture, Natural Resources and the Environment Minister Sofoklis Aletraris, Government Spokesman Stephanos Stephanou and Under Secretary to the President Titos Christofides. Camera crews and a photographer are already at the Platform. Houston-based Noble Energy, drilling rig began drilling in Cyprus EEZ last September. Cyprus has signed an agreement to delineate the EEZ with Egypt and Israel with a view to exploit any possible natural gas and oil reserves in its EEZ. A similar agreement was signed with Lebanon but the Lebanese Parliament has not yet ratified it. [02] GREEK FM - CYPRUSGreek Foreign Minister Stavros Demas arrives on the island Monday for a two-day visit, November 21 and 22.The Greek Minister will be received by President Demetris Christofias and will meet President of the House of Representatives Yiannakis Omirou. He will also meet his Cypriot counterpart Erato Kozakou-Markoullis and the leaders of the political parties in the House of Representatives. Demas will also have an audience with Archbishop Chrysostomos II. [03] EU FUNDING CYPRUSCyprus received 178 million euro in EU funding in 2010 according to the official website of the European Union.It contributed 158 million euro to the EU budget and collected 35.2 million in customs and farm trade duties on behalf of the EU, of which it retained 25% as an administrative fee. Cyprus received 67 million euro (38%) for regional policy derived from cohesion and structural funds, this exceeded the EU average of 33%. [04] FORMER PRESIDENT - SURGERYFormer President of the Republic, Glafcos Clerides, is undergoing surgery Monday after being diagnosed with colon cancer.His physician, Iosif Kasios, in a statement said that after various tests were completed, a malignant tumour was discovered and the former President had to be readmitted in the Evangelistria clinic. The former president, 92, was admitted to Evangelistria on Monday with chronic gastrointestinal disorder but was released two days later as doctors were waiting for test results.
