    Commonwealth Heads of Government have underlined their full support for the territorial integrity of the Republic of Cyprus as well as for its sovereign right to explore and exploit any hydrocarbon reserves in its Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).

    In their Joint Communique, issued after the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (GHOGM) which took place in Perth, Australia, 28 -30 October, they reaffirm the previous CHOGM Communiques on Cyprus and express full support for the sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity and unity of the Republic of Cyprus.

    They also support the efforts of the leaders of the two communities of Cyprus, under the auspices of the UN Secretary-Generals Good Offices Mission, to bring about a comprehensive Cyprus settlement, based on the UN Charter and the relevant UNSCRs for a State of Cyprus with a single sovereignty, single international personality and a single citizenship, in a bicommunal, bizonal federation with political equality as described in the relevant UNSCRs.

    The Heads of Government called for the implementation of UNSCRs, in particular 365 (1974), 541 (1983), 550 (1984), and 1251 (1999) and reiterated their support for the full respect of the human rights of all Cypriots and for the accounting for all missing persons.

    [02] HOUSE PRESIDENT - CYPRUS PROBLEM

    The solution to the Cyprus problem should be European, President of the House of Representatives Yiannakis Omirou said Sunday. In a speech at the unveiling of a of a monument in honour of the painter Michael Kasialou in Larnaca, Omirou said that the solution to the Cyprus problem should respect and be in line with the European Law.

    House President said that by using the new European environment in which the Cyprus issue is integrated and with initiatives and moves from our side in coordination with Greece we can look forward to better days.

    He said that tactics at the negotiating table and the strategy in the overall handling of the Cyprus problem must be reviewed. Omirou stressed that the proposals of the Turkish side is in favour of the establishment of two equal state entities.

    ``Turkey continues to escalate its provocations in the last weeks, launching threats against the sovereign rights of the Republic of Cyprus in its Exclusive Economic Zone, threatening the security and stability in the area of Northern Mediterranean``, he noted.

    [03] JUSTICE MINISTER - CYPRIOT EU PRESIDENCY

    Issues regarding the preparations for the Cypriot EU Presidency in the second half of 2012 were in the agenda of various meetings the Cypriot Justice Minister held in Luxemburg, on the sidelines of the EU Justice Council.

    According to an official statement issued here Sunday, Justice and Public Order Minister Loukas Louka had a meeting with the Vice President of the European Commission, Commissioner for Justice, Fundamental Rights and Citizenship, Viviane Reding.

    Justice Minister also participated in a meeting of the EU Trio presidency (Cyprus, Poland, Denmark) with his counterparts from Poland and Denmark.

    Ministers assessed the 18 month program for the Trio presidency and exchanged views on further coordination.
