[01] LEADERS CYPRUS TALKSPresident of the Republic Demetris Christofias and Turkish Cypriot leader Dervis Eroglu meet on Friday at 10:00 local time (07:00 GMT), in the context of UN-led intensified direct talks to solve the Cyprus problem.The meeting takes place at the residence of the UN Secretary General`s Special Representative in Cyprus Liza Buttenheim, in the UN-protected area in Nicosia. The two leaders are due to discuss the economy. According to a statement by UN Secretary General`s Special Representative in Cyprus Liza Buttenheim after Wednesdays meeting, there were a number of convergences in the issue of citizenship. Cyprus has been divided since 1974, when Turkey invaded and occupied its northern third. The leaders of the two communities are currently engaged in UN-led talks, with an aim to reunify the island under a federal roof. [02] FM - TURKEY-PSEUDO STATE - AGREEMENTAny agreements between Turkey and the secessionist entity set up in the northern part of Cyprus concerning the exploitation of natural resources are illegal, as illegal is the Turkish occupation and the pseudo-state itself, the Cypriot Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed on Thursday.In a press release issued as a response to an announcement by the Turkish FM that Turkey and the so-called ``TRNC`` agreed to conclude a continental shelf delimitation agreement in case the Republic of Cyprus proceed with offshore drilling activities in its Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), the Cypriot FM stated that ``any agreements between Turkey and the pseudo-state concerning natural resources exploitation in any part of the Republic of Cyprus, either in the sea or on land are illegal and contradict the International Law, as illegal is the Turkish occupation and the pseudo-state itself,`` adding ``as such as we will denounce them to the international community.`` Cyprus has been divided since 1974 when Turkey invaded and occupied 37 per cent of its territory. In 1983 the occupying regime proceeded with a Unilateral Declaration of Independence described as ``legally invalid`` by UN Security Council resolution 541 (1983). [03] MARI BLAST - HEARINGMore officials are due to appear on Friday at a public hearing before a commission of inquiry looking into the blast at the Naval Base Evaggelos Florakis at Mari on July 11th.Following the blast, on July 11, the government appointed a commission of inquiry, headed by lawyer Polis Polyviou, to investigate the circumstances that led to the massive explosion of munitions, which killed 13 people and destroyed the islands main power station. The commission will also look into possible political responsibilities. The blast occurred in containers full of munitions, which Cyprus stored at the naval base, after confiscating the load from Monchegorsk, a vessel sailing from Iran to Syria in 2009. Cyprus was acting according to UN Security Council resolutions, imposing sanctions on Teheran. Cyprus Electricity Authority General Manager Stelios Stylianou, Head of Mines Service Erotokritos Anastasiades and Larnaca Rescue Centre Captain Constantinos Fytiris are scheduled to appear before the commission today.
