[01] CYPRUS TALKS - POSTPONEMENTThe meeting between Cyprus President Demetris Christofias and Turkish Cypriot leader Dervis Eroglu scheduled to take place on Friday, in the framework of direct negotiations for the Cyprus problem, has been postponed, at the request of the Greek Cypriot negotiating team.In a written statement, UNFICYP Spokesperson said that at the request of the Greek Cypriot negotiating team, tomorrows leaders meeting has been postponed He went on to say that the United Nations and the Turkish Cypriot negotiating team have agreed to this request. The meeting will be rescheduled for after the two-week break, the statement concluded. Cyprus has been divided since 1974, when Turkey invaded and occupied its northern third. UN-led negotiations began in 2008 between the leaders of the two communities in Cyprus, in an effort to reunify the island under a federal roof. President Christofias and Eroglu met with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon in Geneva, on July 7th, and according to Ban`s statement after the meeting, they agreed to enter into an intensive period of negotiations on the core issues of the Cyprus problem, with an aim of achieving convergences before meeting again in New York, next October. [02] FINANCE MINISTRY - BONDSCypriot Ministry of Finance announced Thursday that it will auction in the domestic market 10-year bonds worth up to 20 million euro on August 22.According to the announcement, the bonds will be offered at a 6.50% coupon. The issue date of the bonds is August 25, 2011 and they mature on August 25, 2021. [03] JULY - INFLATIONThe rate of inflation for July 2011 dropped to 3.7% compared to 4.2% in June 2011, but is higher than the rate of inflation of 2.6% recorded in July 2010.According to figures released by the Statistical Service, the Consumer Price Index for July 2011 decreased by 1.73 units or 1.47% to 115.89 units compared to 117.62 in June 2011. This is mainly due to decreases in the prices of clothing, footwear, furniture and furnishings due to summer sale discounts as well as to decreases in the prices of certain fresh fruit and vegetables. Increases have been recorded in the price of electricity and the salaries of housemaids. [04] ROAD ACCIDENTS - DEATHSThe number of deaths in road accidents in 2010 decreased compared to 2009 despite the fact that the number of road accidents increased in 2010 compared to 2009, according to the annual report Transport Statistics for the year 2010 published Thursday by the Statistical Service.The report provides detailed information on the economic developments of the broad transport sector as well as data on the registration of motor vehicles by type and category, road accidents, shipping and aviation activities and transportation of goods and passengers.
