    President Demetris Christofias said on Monday that 66 years since the end of World War II, the Cypriot people are still fighting for the liberation and the reunification of their country.

    In his address at a special commemorative event here today to honor the 66th Anniversary of Anti-fascist Victory during World War II, read out by the Director of the Presidents Office, Christos Christofides, President Christofias said that despite the difficulties and obstacles which stand in our way, we insist on continuing our struggle to achieve a viable and functional solution, which will end the Turkish occupation and reunite our country and our people.

    A solution, he added, which will restore the human rights of all the people of Cyprus and which will be based on international and European law.

    He said ``to achieve our goal we need the commitment of all political forces to a minimum common political basis to send a strong message both to our people, Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots, and the international community, that Cyprus must and can be reunited on the basis of a bizonal, bicommunal federation with political equality as defined in the UN Security Council resolutions with a single sovereignty, a single citizenship and a single international personality.

    [02] KYPRIANOU - UN CHIEF - TURKEY

    Cypriot Minister of Foreign Affairs Marcos Kyprianou met on Monday in Constantinople with UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon, with whom he exchanged views on the Cyprus problem and efforts to reach a solution.

    Speaking after the meeting on the sidelines of the 4th UN Forum for the Least Developed Countries, Kyprianou said he had the opportunity to elaborate on ``our views and concerns regarding recent developments in the talks, how the process is moving and how we would like it to be moving, as well as the reasons for which there is no progress.``

    Kyprianou told CNA that he also listened to the views of the UN Secretary General, who he said was ``looking forward to a tripartite meeting in June or July, to discuss the core issues.``

    [03] GOVERNMENT - LOAN

    The government borrowed on Monday 200,000,000 euro through the sale of 52 week Treasury Bills, with a nominal value of 100,000,000 euro, bearing an interest rate of 2.98%.

    Finance Ministrys Public Debt Management Office has announced that at todays auction for the sale of the 52 week Treasury Bills - with date of issue 11th of May, 2011 and maturity date 9th of May, 2012 - competitive bids amounted to 210,000,000 euro were received and bids totaling 200,000,000 euro were accepted. There were non-competitive bids.

    The lowest and highest prices of the competitive bids accepted were 970.37 euro and 971.03 euro respectively for each 1,000 euro Treasury Bills nominal value representing annual yields of 3.02% and 2.95% respectively.

    According to the Ministry of Finance, the weighted average price of the competitive bids accepted was 970.795 euro representing an annual yield to maturity of 2.98%.
