    Cyprus President Demetris Christofias departs on Sunday to Warsaw for an EU Presidency Trio Meeting with Prime Minister of Poland Donald Tusk and Prime Minister of Denmark Lars Rasmussen. The meeting aims at findings further ways of coordination between Cyprus-Poland and Denmark on the negotiations for the new EU Multiannual Financial Framework

    According to an official announcement, President Christofias will have a working lunch with his two counterparts on Monday.

    The negotiations for the new EU Multiannual Financial Framework, which will be in effect from the year 2013, is among the most important obligations that the Presidency Trio, Poland-Denmark-Cyprus, has to meet.

    Furthermore, the Leaders of the three countries are expected to discuss the Eastern Partnership (the programme aimed at forging closer ties with six countries in Eastern Europe and the Southern Caucasus), the reaction of the EU to the situation in the states of North Africa, and issues concerning the illegal immigrations.

    The three leaders are also expected to exchange views on the EU Enlargement, and on the action need to be taken for securing more investments on the fields of Research, Innovation and Education.

    The President will be accompanied by Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Nicholas Aimiliou, Head of the Secretariat of the Cyprus EU Presidency Andreas Moleskis, Ambassador of Cyprus to Poland Popi Avraam and his Diplomatic Office officer Andrea Petranyi.

    President Christofias return to Cyprus Monday afternoon.

    [02] FM - UN CONFERENCE - TURKEY

    Foreign Minister Marcos Kyprianou departs for Constantinople on Monday in order to participate in the Fourth United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDC-IV).

    The Conference is to be concluded on Friday May 13.

    According to an official press release issued here on Sunday, Kyprianou will also participate in the meeting of the Council of Europe Committee of Ministers which will be held in Constantinople on May 11.

    Cypriot FM will have the opportunity to meet with his counterparts from various countries.

    [03] PIROI VILLAGE CROSSING - MARCH

    Residents of the villages of Athienou, Avdellero and the occupied village of Piroi in the District of Larnaca marched on Sunday morning demanding the opening of the Piroi crossing between the areas under government control and the occupied areas.

    President of the Republic Demetris Christofias has instructed the Greek Cypriot Committee which discusses with the Turkish Cypriot Committee about such issues to place the opening of the crossing within its priorities, stated Athienou Mayor and President of the Coordinating Committee for the Opening of Crossings Spyros Papouis.

    Local Administration Council President of Piroi Andreas Piroyiatis said that the motto is one: Return to Piroi, adding that the village of Piroi must be returned and the free movement of people must be allowed.

    Many residents gathered at the Athienou roundabout and marched for a distance of one kilometer within the dead zone. Papouis also submitted a Resolution approved by the residents to a UNFICYP Officer.
