The meeting will take place at the residence of the Special Representative of the UN Secretary General in Cyprus, Liza Buttenheim, in the UN-protected area of Nicosia Airport.

The two leaders are expected to continue their discussions on the internal aspects of security.

After their previous meeting, which took place on the 27th of April, Special Representative of the UN Secretary General Liza Buttenheim told reporters that the leaders had a good discussion on the internal aspects of security, which they will continue at their next meeting.

[02] PRESIDENT - CYPRUS ISSUE

In a speech at the inauguration ceremony of the Armenian Cultural Center, in the coastal town of Larnaca, President Christofias said that the objective is to free Cyprus from the Turkish occupation and reunite the island so that all Cypriot citizens - Greek Cypriots, Turkish Cypriots, Armenians, Maronites and Latins - can live together under conditions of peace.

We are working just as hard to avert any approaches which could aim either at violating the agreed procedure or at violating the agreed principles of a solution, he stressed, pointing out that such approaches would lead to a new stalemate.

Describing any possible partition of Cyprus as a disaster for our country and our people, he assured that we continue to work with all our strength to reach a just, viable and functional solution.

[03] SHIPS - TURKISH EMBARGO

In her opening address at the European Sea Ports Community (ESPO) 2011 Conference, which takes place in the coastal town of Limassol, the Minister said that Turkey is knowingly opposing the development of ports by preventing ships, under the Cyprus flag or ships irrespective of flag but managed from Cyprus-based companies or having as last port of call Cyprus ports, from entering Turkish ports.

``Taking into account that Cyprus features the largest ship management industry in the world and the total fleet managed from Cyprus represents 25% of the world third-party ship management market in terms of gross tonnage, it is quite obvious how harmful such restrictive measures are and how extensive the financial losses are, especially for EU interests``, she stressed.

The Minister pointed out that such measures constitute serious obstacles and distortions in the direction of free trade and fair and free competition in shipping trade within the EU.

[04] INFLATION - APRIL

According to an official press release, the Consumer Price Index for April increased by 1.34 units or 1.16% to 116.46 units compared to 115.12 in March 2011.

According to Cyprus Statistical Service, this is mainly due to increases in the prices of certain clothing and footwear items, electricity and petroleum products. Decreases have been recorded in the prices of certain fresh vegetables and fresh lambs meat.

The rate of increase of the Index, and therefore the rate of inflation, for April 2011 rose to 3.3% compared to 2.8% in March 2011 and 2.4% in April 2010.

For the period January-April 2011, the CPI recorded an increase of 2.9% compared to the corresponding period of 2010.
