The meeting will take place at the residence of the Special Representative of the UN Secretary General in Cyprus, Liza Buttenheim, in the UN-protected area of Nicosia Airport.

The two leaders are expected to continue their discussions on the internal aspects of security.

After their previous meeting, which took place on the 27th of April, Special Representative of the UN Secretary General Liza Buttenheim told reporters that the leaders had a good discussion on the internal aspects of security, which they will continue at their next meeting.

[02] PRESIDENT - TOURISM

Addressing the Annual General Meeting of the Association of Cyprus Tourist Enterprises (ACTE), President Christofias referred to the problems caused by the global financial crisis and noted that ``with specific measures and initiatives we have managed to reverse the downward course and lead the tourism sector in Cyprus to positive growth once again.``

``The government, with the timely implementation in 2009 and the expansion of the package of measures to support the tourism industry in 2010, actively supported the tourist economy, preventing much steeper downward trends in 2009 and contributed to the creation of recovery conditions in 2010,`` he said.

He added that ``in 2010 there was an increase in revenue from tourism around 5% and, according to all available data and indications, despite the variable nature of the tourist sector, we expect an even more significant rise this year.``

[03] CTO CHAIRMAN - TOURISM

Addressing the Annual General Meeting of the Association of Cyprus Tourist Enterprises (ACTE), Orountiotis said that Cypriot tourism is ``a sensitive construction`` and called on all parties involved to keep in mind the short and long-term prospects of tourism.

He said that in 2010 efforts were made in a very harsh environment, with the consequences of the global financial crisis, the eruption of the volcano in Iceland, the global drop in recreation trips from Britain, reduced credit, pressure from travel organisers, viability problems faced by travel agents and air carriers, and the void left by the closing of Eurocypria airline.

``However, the tourist economy has managed to survive and once again proved that it is one of the few remaining activities that can effectively contribute to the support and recovery of the Cypriot economy,`` he said, adding that ``in the midst of the crisis and after hard work, revenue from tourism has substantively contributed to support the GDP growth rate, achieving an increase that approached +4%, and which could have been even better if there had been more funds available to promote action and cooperation.``

[04] AUDIOVISUAL - CONFERENCE

The conference will gather media and culture professionals coming from all the countries of the area, in an attempt to analyze the present, and imagine the future of the audiovisual sector in the region, considering the political and social changes the Mediterranean is experiencing.

Organized in cooperation with CyBC Cypriot public television the conference will give the opportunity for exchange between traditional and new media, generalist broadcasters and all-news channels, with a view to trying to understand the changes in the access to information, as well as how the actors of the sector face the challenges of the digital era.

On May 14 such topics will be debated by the representatives of public services from the two Mediterranean shores, European and Arab channels such as Euronews and Al Arabiya, interactive multimedia platforms like Dailymotion, and international press agencies like ANSAmed and France Presse.
