[01] LARNACA AIRPORT - MIRAGE FIGHTERS
Three Qatari aircraft which had landed on Tuesday at Larnaca
international airport, two Mirage fighters and a transport plane, have
departed shortly after 15:30 local time (1330 GMT).
ิhe government of Cyprus had originally denied them permission to land
and refuel but eventually the Civil Aviation Authority of the Republic
of Cyprus, operating under international rules and regulations, gave
permission after they had requested permission for an emergency landing
due to fuel shortage.
[02] LEADERS - CYPRUS TALKS
President of the Republic Demetris Christofias and Turkish Cypriot
leader Dervis Eroglu will meet Wednesday morning in the framework of
the UN-backed direct negotiations for a solution to the Cyprus
problem.
The meeting will start at 0930 (0730 GMT) and will be held at the
residence of the Special Representative of United Nations Secretary
General in Cyprus, in the UN protected area of Nicosia Airport.
[03] AUSTRIAN FM - CYPRUS - OFFICIAL VISIT
Austrian Foreign Minister Michael Spindelegger is arriving on Thursday,
March 24, in Cyprus, on an official visit where he will meet his
Cypriot counterpart and UN officials.
According to an official announcement, Spindelegger will be accompanied
by Austrian Ministry officials and will be received at Larnaca airport
by Chief of Protocol Ioanna Malliotis and Austrian Ambassador in Cyprus
Martin Weiss.
[04] CYPRUS POLICE - SITUATION IN LIBYA - MEASURES
Cyprus Police are vigilant and take all necessary measures due to the
situation in Libya and the operation of coalition countries, Police
Chief Michalis Papageorgiou has said.
Asked about the measures taken after the launch of the offensive
against Libya, Papageorgiou said that we are trying with the potential
we have in staff, technology, knowhow and experts advice to evaluate
any threats deriving from domestic abnormalities in foreign countries
to see how the Republic of Cyprus is affected. And of course we are
taking the required preventive and repressive measures.
