[01] MARONITE ARCHBISHOP - CONFERENCEThe Maronite Archbishop of Cyprus Youssef Soueif has highlighted the problems and challenges faced by young Maronites in Cyprus and the need to maintain contact with their Turkish occupied villages. Speaking at a press conference on the results of the 11th meeting of the Presidents of Bishops conferences of South-East Europe held in Cyprus, he said they had a very nice and warm meeting with the President of the Republic Demetris Christofias, adding that President Christofias appreciated very much the Presidents of Bishops conference here and attached great importance to it.The President told the Maronite Archbishop that he understands very well the difficulties faced by the Maronites in Cyprus and expressed the hope for the reunification of all communities of the island, according to Soueif. President Christofias, Soueif added, explained the Cyprus problem and all its aspects. Archbishop Soueif assured the President that all of them will remember Cyprus and pray for a just and peaceful solution for the country. He added that faced with such a situation all communities on the island must respect and help each other. We must keep alive every single community because with every single community we keep alive the traditions and culture of Cyprus, he said. Answering a question about the specific problems of Maronite youth, the Archbishop said that after the 1974 Turkish invasion, the Maronites are refugees, living in a different social environment away from their villages, something that creates challenges for young Maronites as well. He stressed the importance for young Maronites to discover their identity. The basic element of the identity is to be open, in all the categories and all communities of Cyprus, contributing to the culture of love, peace and reconciliation in the country and being in contact with our villages, he noted. [02] BELGIAN SENATE PRESIDENT - CYPRUS VISITBelgian Senate President Danny Pieters is visiting Cyrpus at the invitation of House President Marios Garoyian. Pieters will be received by President of the Republic Demetris Christofias and the meet House President.He is due to have separate meetings with Minister of Labour and Social Insurance Soteroula Charalambous, Famagusta Mayor Alexis Galanos and Nicosia Mayor Eleni Mavrou. Pieters who will be accompanied by Belgian Senate Secretary General Hugo Hondequin. [03] PAPHOS - TOURISM - AIR LINKSThe international airport of Paphos, on the western coast, will be linked with 12 European tourist destinations with direct flights from March 14. The flights will be organized by the big Greek travel agency Kavaliero Viajes, as part of the agencys programme CYPRUS 55 + (plus) covering travelers over 55. The programme will link Paphos with 12, mainly new, European countries including Greece. Both the Greek company and local authorities of Paphos aim to extend the programme to more destinations.Mayor of Paphos Savvas Vergas welcomed the decision of Kavaliero Viajes, saying that these flights will be a tourist injection for Paphos, as it is estimated that for the period March-May 2011, 30,000 tourists will visit Cyprus, 15,000 of whom have chosen Paphos. The Kavaliero Viajes has announced that it will launch weekly flights to Greece (Athens), Poland, Austria, Portugal, Spain, Italy, Switzerland and Slovenia during the period March 14 - May 31.
