  • [01] GOVERNMENT - KOKKINA INCIDENT

The Republic of Cyprus follows the incident in the waters near the Kokkina enclave very closely, Government Spokesman Stephanos Stephanou said on Wednesday.

Invited to comment on the recent incident, where shots were reportedly fired by Turkish occupying soldiers against Greek Cypriot fishermen from the Kokkina enclave, Stephanou said that the Government may proceed with demarches and representations to the UN and other competent organisations.

The Kokkina enclave is situated in the northwestern coast of Cyprus, near the Morphou Bay and is controlled by the Turkish military.

    [02] PRESIDENT - HEALTH CONDITION

The President of the Republic Demetris Christofias exercises his duties as usual and is in excellent health, Government Spokesman Stephanos Stephanou said on Wednesday. Asked to comment on the state of the Presidents health, who cancelled his trip to the OSCE summit in Kazakhstan after feeling unwell, Stephanou said that the President is fine.

He also said that the President attended this mornings meeting at the Presidential palace with his aides and discussed daily matters and his upcoming schedule.

Stephanou noted that adjustments have been made, in order to lighten the Presidents agenda, but pointed out that this does not mean that the President is not exercising his duties. He added that on Thursday the President will chair a meeting of the Cabinet.

President Christofias felt unwell when he was in Libya attending the EU-Libya summit. He flew back to Cyprus, at the advice of his doctor, and cancelled his scheduled trip to Kazakstan to participate in the OSCE summit.
