    President of Honduras Porfirio Lobo Sosa has expressed his governments full support and steadfast support to efforts of the Republic of Cyprus to find a viable and functional settlement of the Cyprus problem, underlining that the settlement must be based on the provisions of the UN Security Council relevant resolutions.

    Speaking during a private meeting he had with the first Ambassador of Cyprus in Honduras, seated in the City of Mexico, who presented his credentials to him, Sosa also asked the Cyprus governments cooperation in the fields of tourism and education.

    Moreover, the President of Honduras referred to the excellent friendship bonds between Cyprus and Honduras, and expressed his sincere appreciation towards the President of Cyprus Demetris Christofias.

    On his part, the Cypriot Ambassador thanked Honduras for its steadfast solidarity and firm position as regards the Cyprus problem and briefed Sosa on the course of the talks on the Cyprus problem, elaborating on the three-tier proposals put forward by President Christofias.

    Presenting his credentials, Philippou conveyed Christofias wishes to his government and the President of Honduras.

    [02] GAROYIAN - REPORTERS

    Acting President of the Republic, President of the House of Representatives Marios Garoyian, received a delegation of representatives of Greek journalists` associations, which is in Cyprus to participate in celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the Union of Cyprus Journalists.

    The delegation requested to be informed on current developments in the Cyprus problem and Garoyian referred to the process of direct talks between the leaders of the two communities, noting that, despite the goodwill of the Greek Cypriot side, Turkey is insisting on intransigent positions that do now allow for substantive progress.

    He assured that the Greek Cypriot side remains dedicated to reaching a solution providing for a bizonal bicommunal federation, with a single sovereignty, a single international identity and a single citizenship, which will safeguard the human rights and political freedoms of all its citizens.

    Garoyian and the delegation also exchanged views on issues concerning journalism in Greece and Cyprus.

    [03] KYPRIANOU - BERLIN

    Minister of Foreign Affairs Markos Kyprianou will visit Berlin on Wednesday, December 1st, where he will meet with his German counterpart, Guido Westerwelle.

    According to an official press release, the discussions between Kyprianou and Westerwelle will focus on bilateral relations, the Cyprus problem, EU - Turkey relations, as well as other issues regarding the European Union.

    As noted, during his visit, Kyprianou will also deliver a speech at the prestigious German Council on Foreign Policy on the Cyprus problem and EU - Turkey relations.

    [04] EMILIOU - BUDAPEST

    Ministry of Foreign Affairs Permanent Secretary, Ambassador Nicholas Emiliou, will pay a visit to Budapest on Tuesday where he will hold political consultations with the Minister of State for EU Affairs, Eniko Gyori, the Deputy State Secretary for European Union Affairs, Balint Odor, and the Deputy State Secretary for EU Bilateral Relations and Cultural Diplomacy, Gergely Prohle.

    An official press release notes that the discussions will include the Cyprus problem, Turkeys accession process to the European Union, the priorities of the Hungarian Presidency of the Council of the European Union and other matters of mutual interest.
