No decisions have been taken by the Government concerning the adoption of financial measures, but the dialogue with the co-governing parties is in the right direction, Government Spokesman Stephanos Stephanou said, in the margins of the 21st pancyprian conference of the ruling left-wing AKEL party in Nicosia.

Asked by journalists whether the financial measures to be adopted aim at cutting wages and imposing taxes on bank assets and if such measures are deemed efficient, Stephanou said that no measures have been adopted yet.

He added that there is an ongoing dialogue between the Government, AKEL and DIKO parties, and that Finance Minister Stavrakis sent recently some additional thoughts for the continuation of the dialogue.

Decision on these issues aims at finalizing the package of financial measures, as well as to strengthen public finances, vis-a-vis Cyprus obligation towards the EU, Stephanou said.

The Government Spokesman added that the President of the Republic Demetris Christofias, while addressing the opening of the AKEL conference on Thursday, underlined the aim to adopt socially just measures, so that everyone can contribute towards fulfilling these obligations.

Stephanou concluded that the discussion with AKEL and DIKO is in the right direction and added that a final understanding on the package of measures will emerge soon.
