A UN-sponsored meeting between the leaders of the two communities in
Cyprus and the UN Secretary General is currently underway, in New
York.
After the meeting, Ban Ki-moon will talk to the press.
Prior to the meeting, the UNSG hosted a lunch for Cyprus President
Demetris Christofias, the leader of the Turkish Cypriot community
Dervis Eroglu and their top aides.
The New York meeting was called by Ban in an effort to make headway in
the UN-led talks, which began in Cyprus between the two communities in
September 2008 with a view to find a negotiated settlement to reunite
the country.
After the meeting with Ban and Eroglu, President Christofias will meet
the permanent representatives of Russia, France and Greece and more
such meetings are likely to follow suit on Friday morning.
