The Ministry of Agriculture has signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with the Greek Ministry of Environment, foreseeing the exchange of technical know-how in the domain of environment and energy, in view of Cyprus EU Presidency during the second semester of 2012.

Minister of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environment Demetris Eliades said the Memorandum covers cooperation in a series of issues that fall under the competency of his Ministry, and provides for the exchange of technocrats and experts with Greece.

He added that the Cyprus EU Presidency is a big challenge for Cyprus, which has to be handled in a responsible manner. Greek Minister of Environment, Energy and Climate Change Tina Birbili said on her part that the Memorandum is not about educating Cypriot technocrats by their Greek colleagues. Éts a common framework of cooperation-she went on to say-, where both sides will cover the gaps in technical know-how, in the areas they know best.

She added that the Memorandum is valid for a six-year term, in order to cover both the Cypriot EU Presidency in 2012, as well as the Greek EU Presidency, due on the first semester of 2014.
