[01] PRESIDENT WATER SHORTAGE SOLUTION

The President, who inaugurated Tuesday the Waste Processing Plant of Vathia Gonia, in the Nicosia district, said in his speech that the government has addressed the water problem in a responsible manner.

We are now in a position to tell the people of Cyprus that one more problem, which has been affecting our country for decades, is heading towards solution, he stressed.

The President said that by the end of next year, Cyprus will be fully independent from rainfall to cover its water needs.

``Based on the governments action plan and the measures we are taking, we will not experience again water cuts and we will not be importing water from abroad, as we had to do in 2008, he said.

Meanwhile, Minister of Agriculture, Natural Resources and the Environment Demetris Eliades, told a press conference that three desalination units are under construction, two of which will fully operate by the end of 2011.

He said that the total water reserves reach now 158 million cubic meters, which will cover Cyprus needs until the end of 2011.

The Minister explained that by the end of 2011, two of the three new desalination units will start operating, meaning that Cyprus will no longer be dependent on rain.

[02] CMP EXHUMATIONS SUSPENSION

According to the announcement, the CMP is in consultations with the experts regarding the most appropriate way forward in order to ensure the safety of the CMP exhumation teams and the continuation of its efforts to bring closure to the families of the Missing Persons.

The CMP appeals to all relevant parties and stakeholders to appreciate the seriousness of the cautious steps taken by the CMP to address this unexpected development and help towards dealing with the situation in an effective and safe for all way, it is concluded.

[03] ORTHODOX CHURCHES MEETING

According to the Cyprus Church website, the leaders who will take part in the meeting, following an invitation by Primate of the Church of Cyprus Archbishop Chrysostomos II, are Patriarch Ignatius of Antioch, Patriarch Theophilus of Jerusalem and Theodoros II, Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa.

The Patriarchs will depart on Thursday afternoon.

[04] VOLUNTEER DOCTORS CYPRUS HAITI

A press release by the organisation says that the delegation will provide medical care and pharmaceutical aid to cover some of the needs of the St Martin II Delmas medical centre, in Port-au-Prince, which provides free medical care to 60,000 people.

The aim of the mission is to provide St Martin II Delmas with medical equipment as well as to set up a microbiological laboratory.

Moreover, the organisation will donate surgical tools to the central hospital of Port-au-Prince, while the organisations mobile dental clinic will offer free dental care to the people in the area of Carrefour which has a population of more than half a million. According to the press release, the organisation will also cover one years financial needs in food and education of an orphanage in the area of Queche.
