    The unemployed persons, registered at the District Labour Offices on the last day of July 2010, reached 22,899 persons, according to Cyprus Statistical Service.

    A press release issued by the Service said that based on the seasonally adjusted data that shows the trend of unemployment, the number of registered unemployed for July 2010 recorded a decrease of 1.4% compared to the previous month and reached 23,218 persons. This is the first recorded reduction of the seasonally adjusted data in 2010.

    In comparison with July 2009, an increase of 4,910 persons or 27.3% was recorded, which was mainly observed in the sectors of trade (an increase of 829 unemployed persons), construction (an increase of 657), public administration (an increase of 624), manufacturing (an increase of 496), hotels and restaurants (an increase of 486), education (an increase of 264), real estate and business activities (an increase of 244), as well as to newcomers in the labour market where an increase of 756 unemployed persons was recorded.

    [02] TOURISM - REVENUE

    Revenue from tourism reached 195.3 million EUR in June 2010 compared to 175.4 million EUR in the corresponding month of the previous year, recording an increase of 11.4%.

    According to a Statistical Service press release, on the basis of the results of the Passenger Survey, for the period January to June 2010 revenue from tourism is estimated at 578.3 million EUR compared to 565.8 million EUR in the corresponding period of 2009, recording an increase of 2.2%.
