    House President Marios Garoyian stressed on Friday the lack of substantive progress in the process of direct negotiations which started in September 2008 with a view to solve the problem of Cyprus, divided since the Turkish invasion of the island in 1974.

    Garoyian was speaking during a meeting he had with Greek Minister for the Interior, Decentralization and Electronic Governance Giannis Ragousis, who is currently visiting Cyprus.

    An official press release issued here said that Garoyian also briefed Ragousis about the functions of the House and its competencies.

    On his part, Ragousis elaborated on the measures taken to address the economic crisis in Greece.

    [02] CYPRIOT AND GREEK INTERIOR MINISTERS - MEETING

    Cypriot Minister of the Interior Neoclis Sylikiotis met on Friday with Greek Minister of the Interior, Decentralization and Electronic Governance Giannis Ragousis with whom he discussed a broad spectrum of issues such as immigration, and local administration.

    Speaking to the press after the meeting, Ragousis said he invited his Cypriot counterpart to Greece, adding that there is big room for cooperation between the two countries with a view to serve the Greek and the Cypriot people in the best and most effective way.

    Facing its biggest fiscal crisis ever, Greece tries at the same time to come out of the crisis with ``deep reforms in the Greek state itself, the operation and the attitude of the Greek state and public administration``, he said.

    [03] EMILIOU - BERLIN - MEETINGS

    Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nicholas Emiliou, will hold a series of meetings in Berlin during which he will discuss the Cyprus issue and Turkey`s EU course.

    Emiliou will visit Berlin on Monday, 4 July where he will have separate meetings with the Diplomatic Advisor of German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Christoph Heusgen, and the Minister of State at the Federal Foreign Office, in charge of European Affairs, Werner Hoyer.

    [04] KYPRIA FESTIVAL - PRESS CONFERENCE

    The annual Kypria Festival will be dedicated this year to the 50 years of the Republic of Cyprus.

    Speaking during a press conference, Education and Culture Minister Andreas Demetriou said that the Festival will begin on September 3 with modern dance show ``Rushes Plus`` by the dancing group «Indal Pinto and Avshalom Pollak Dance Company» from Israel. This will be followed by jazz performances by «Modern Creative Jazz», while Cyprus Symphonic Orchestra will perform Beethoven`s Heroic Symphony.
