[01] CYPRUS - FINABEL SESSIONThe National Guard General Staff will be hosting the 2010 second session of the military experts of FINABEL, in Larnaca, from June 14 to 18.The session will also be attended by representatives of the European Defence Agency, the EU Military Staff (EUMS) and the EU Military Committee (EUMC). FINABEL was established in 1953 with the purpose of maintaining contacts between European armies on a chief of staff level. Cyprus joined FINABEL in 2008. The hosting of the session is part of the National Guard`s obligations towards the organisation. [02] CNA - BTA - CONFERENCEThe Cyprus News Agency (CNA) and the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) hosted a conference in Nicosia on Thursday titled Cyprus Bulgaria: Development of relations and the Role of Mass Media.During the first session, the global financial crisis and the ways in which Cyprus and Bulgaria were dealing with its consequences, as well as the opportunities for investments and tourism, were presented . Business and investment opportunities in Cyprus and Bulgaria, as well as the flow of tourists among the two countries, were the focus of the second session. [03] UNFICYP - DRAFT RESOLUTIONThe five permanent members of the UN Security Council have agreed on the text of a draft resolution on the renewal of the mandate of the UN peace-keeping force in Cyprus and on the Secretary Generals good offices mission.Diplomatic sources have said that in the agreed draft, the controversial paragraph in the preamble, which included a wish for a solution of the Cyprus problem by the end of 2010, has been amended. It now includes the words if possible, in the phrase expressing a wish for the negotiations to be concluded by the end of 2010. This phrase, the same sources point out, has watered down attempts to use the wish for a solution by the end of the year as a deadline in the ongoing negotiating process. However, it has not eliminated the wish expressed by Cyprus President Demetris Christofias and former Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talat for a solution by the end of 2010. The agreed draft resolution will be distributed on Thursday afternoon to the rest members of the UN Security Council, when they will be briefed by the UN SG Special Advisor on the Cyprus issue Alexander Downer. After the briefing by Downer, the Security Council will have unofficial consultations with the view to adopt the resolution by Friday. [04] CYPRUS - BULGARIA - TOURISMMinister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism Antonis Paschalides met on Thursday with Bulgarian Minister of Economy, Energy and Tourism Traycho Traykov, with whom he discussed tourism and ways to enhance the exchange of tourists between the two countries.Paschalides and Traykov reviewed bilateral relations, discussed various issues of mutual interest, and made special reference to possible cooperation to promote tourist packages, which will include the strong points of either country. The Cypriot Minister briefed Traykov on developments in Cyprus concerning tourism, the promotion of major infrastructure projects, such as marinas and golf courses, and measures taken to strengthen domestic tourism. Traykov referred to his positive impressions from the tourist infrastructure in Cyprus, and noted that Bulgaria could benefit from the exchange of expertise with Cyprus.
