  • [01] STAVRAKIS TAX EVASION MEASURES

Minister of Finance Charilaos Stavrakis has said that tax evasion is a serious problem, adding that the government will take measures to combat it.

The Minister, who participated in a meeting of the House of Representatives` Finance Committee, said that during the meeting they discussed the governments tax bills and tax evasion.

He said that given the fact that the government is committed not to impose new taxes, despite the world economic crisis and the increase of the fiscal deficit, it was deemed as necessary to take additional measures that would contribute to the combating of tax evasion, in order to increase public revenue and establish a feeling of justice among tax payers.

We feel that tax evasion is a serious and diachronic problem, a social blight. It is unacceptable that some fulfill their obligations towards the state and others do not pay, he stressed.

Combating tax evasion, he said, is one of the seven basic pillars of fiscal purification, adding that Friday he will present in detail the seven pillars during a press conference.
