Akamas Peninsula is included in the European network Natura 2000.

[04] EDUCATION MINISTRY - EU CITIZENS PROGRAMME

Cyprus is participating in the programme Europe for the citizens 2007-2013 to help improve tolerance and mutual understanding among European citizens, through respect and the promotion of culture and language. The programme, funded by the EU and the Cyprus Ministry of Education and Culture, aims to encourage citizens and civil society to get involved in the process of European integration, a press conference has heard.

Citizens will have the chance to exchange views and experiences on how to build a more accessible, democratic, united and culturally enriched Europe to develop the notion of European citizenship.

The programme has set out four areas of activity to achieve its goals: hosting meetings between citizens and networks of twinned cities, engaging non profit organizations and other institutions based in participating countries, organizing events to promote the notion of active participation in common goals and safeguarding archives and locations linked to the respect of victims of the Nazis and Stalin.
